1. Centre of Power & Grandiose Delusions: Around the Reichstag

We begin our historically significant tour at Pariser Platz. Passing the Reichstag and the Kroll Opera House, I'll explain the plans for the „World Capital Germania“ to you. Here, where the „Great Hall of the People“ was to be built, Albert Speer and Adolf Hitler's architectural megalomania becomes truly comprehensible. We follow the former East-West Axis and see the Soviet War Memorial as a monument to victory.

2. Remembrance & The Abyss: The Holocaust Memorial and the Führer’s Bunker

A short path leads us to the stele field of the Holocaust Memorial – a place for reflection. Very close by is an inconspicuous car park: the site of the former Führerbunker. Here, underground, the Third Reich came to an end. I will show you where Goebbels‘ city villa stood and how Berlin deals with these „perpetrator sites“ today.

3. The Ministry Mile: Wilhelmstraße & Wilhelmplatz

We drive down Wilhelmstraße, the former nerve centre of power. Here stood the Reich Foreign Ministry, Goebbels‘ Propaganda Ministry, and the New Reich Chancellery. On Wilhelmplatz, where the Hotel Kaiserhof once stood, the administrative coldness of the regime becomes palpable. I'll explain the functions of the buildings and who pulled the strings there.

4. The Architecture of Terror: Göring’s Ministry & Gestapo Headquarters

A massive original structure dominates this section: Göring's „Reich Aviation Ministry“ (today the Ministry of Finance). Immediately next to it, on the site of the „Topography of Terror,“ were the headquarters of the Gestapo, SS, and Reich Security Main Office under Heydrich. A place that stands for the system of oppression like no other.

5. Ideology & Reflection: From Bebelplatz to Unter den Linden

To finish, we cycle to Bebelplatz. The memorial commemorating the book burning of 1933 is a powerful symbol against the misguided spirit of that era. Past the former Reichsbank and across Museum Island, we cycle along the boulevard „Unter den Linden,“ past Speer's former studio, returning to Hotel Adlon and the Brandenburg Gate.
